ALGHERO (SARDINIA) - Pit sop in Fertilia for the "Diving for Waste" project promoted and managed by the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana Protected Marine Area and financed by the European Structural Fund for EMFF fishing 2014-2020. The project aims to safeguard marine biodiversity through the recovery of waste in the sea and abandoned fishing gear, thanks to the active collaboration of the fishermen who operate in its waters and the municipal administration of Alghero.

Since the start of operations, more than 15 kilometers of the seabed of the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana Protected Marine Area have been mapped using ROVs (remotely operated vehicle) to identify areas with greater concentrations of waste and verify their impact on biodiversity. More than 70 recovery operations of waste and abandoned fishing gear were carried out: about 1800 kg of waste recovered, including 350 fish traps, 350 kg of abandoned ropes and nets, 20 truck tires and 200 kg of ferrous material and old anchors , two engines and parts of the hull of two boats abandoned on the seabed.
